Missions--God In Motion
Missions – As far as faith goes, it’s where the rubber meets the road, where faith takes flight, where you can get your hands dirty in service to others. My husband and I are getting ready to go to the International Conference on Missions (theicom.org). This year, it is in Columbus, OH, from Nov 3rd – Nov 5th. There we will be able to visit with missionaries supported by Southern Heights Christian Church (SHCC) like Felipe and Valerie Colby with His Eyes, Roger Babik with MASTER Provisions, and some of the staff at Good News Productions, Intl. In the past, through this conference, my husband and I have also connected with other missions and been able to get involved with missions even outside the ones SHCC supports.
As the title suggests, it is an international conference, these missionaries serve all over the world; however, all have roots in the Independent Restoration Movement Christian Church, the same as Southern Heights. These missionaries from all over the world display their ongoing work in the exhibit area. This year the conference will have 300+ exhibits. I find it exhilarating to be in the presence of so many faithful Christian men and women, living out their faith full-time for others! These missionaries can only operate because of voluntary support and donations from faithful churches and individuals. So yes, they also seek the support they need to carry-out the work that God has called them to do. Many also offer ways for individuals to get involved in God’s work. If all that doesn’t inspire you, the conference also has speakers and workshops open to all attendees.
I seriously would love to help them all! If only I were rich, if only I had more ability to do so… You don’t have to be rich, and they say the best ability is availability. We’re not rich, but we have those we help monthly because we have made a connection with them, and we reap the joyous benefits of staying in touch with their work. We have been on several mission trips and though our ability is not great, we have always found ways to support those missions after returning.
Some say, why international, there is so much needed locally. Well, there is a Biblical command to go to the ends of the earth and yes there is a great need locally. I previously wrote of Crosslines asking for volunteers. Call and talk to them about volunteering at 417-588-3559. Further, The Free Store Ministry recently ask for donations for work boots for those wanting to work, but who do not have the money to equip themselves. Donations for work boots can be made to: Free Store Ministry, PO Box 86, Conway, MO 65632. Another local ministry, Project 360, that helps at risk youth recently ask for donations for needed supplies. All donations can be dropped off at “The Sound House”, 210 South Adams Ave in Lebanon.
As commanded in Mark 16:15: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” On a more personal note, we are advised in Matthew 6:19-21, not to store up treasure on earth, but to store up treasures in heaven. I am thinking supporting missions will surely ensure treasure in heaven.
