Mission Update-His Eyes in Honduras

His Eyes-You Can Give A Child Hope!

Want some good news for a change?  You can always find good news of good works in missions.  Take for example, the work of the Milk Project, part the on-going work of His Eyes, a SHCC sponsored mission. We just received our annual update by email giving us information on the two children we sponsor through this program. I cannot help but want to share what a blessing this sponsorship has been to us, to get to know these children, follow their development, and see Christ at work in their lives.
We sponsor two children, Keeidy Vasquez and Yoel (pronounced Joel) Vasquez (not related).  How did we come to sponsor?  Southern Heights has taken two short-term mission trips to work with His Eyes in Honduras.  The first trip in 2014 and the second in 2016.  My husband, Rick and I organized and traveled on the first trip.  During this trip, we worked with the Milk Project (that all sponsored children attend.) We saw firsthand what this program means to the kids and their families. For struggling families, the Milk Project provides a good meal for the kids (which many would not have otherwise), help with school subjects, and love and encouragement while learning about Christ.
After returning from our trip in 2014, we began sponsoring Keeidy in 2015 and we added Yoel a few years later.  The attached pictures show Keeidy at age 10 and the picture from our current profile update shows much she has changed at age 17. You might ask:  How long do they remain in the Milk Project?  Felipe Colby (Director of His Eyes) explained that they generally decide on a case-by-case basis. When they get older, His Eyes does not automatically age them out at a certain age if they have responded well to the program and show the need and promise of benefitting from further assistance.  We are happy, Keeidy is one of these.  You can also see in the attached pictures how Yoel has changed from a little boy, growing into a young man.  I always laugh and smile when I read the first letter we received  from Yoel.  I quote:  "I like to go to school with my friends and I have an irate teacher."  Well, the translator translated exactly what Yoel wrote, like a typical boy!  Smile!
I always look forward to these annual updates and the Christmas greetings that we get from the
children.  We also get hand-drawn pictures and letters in their own handwriting (with a translation along with it.)  It has also been meaningful to share all this with my Grandchildren.  Most children in the United States don't realize how blessed they are and I hope this provides some realization of the significant difference between their lives and those of children not so fortunate in Honduras.  I hope my Grandchildren will remember this experience and it might make them want a life with missions in it.
I know my world has been a lot bigger and better knowing and being able to help Keeidy and Yoel.  You too can be blessed by sponsoring a child.  It costs only $36 a month.  You can begin sponsoring by going to:  hiseyeshonduras.com.  Go to the contact link on their website to request information about the Milk Project and ask about becoming a sponsor.
Remember to pray for His Eyes, the kids in the Milk Project and the work God is doing through Felipe and Valerie Colby in Honduras.
